Third-country students staying more than 90 days normally use a long-term visa or long-term residence permit route for study, depending on the programme and circumstances. Applications filed abroad are normally lodged through a Czech diplomatic mission. For the study-purpose long-term residence route, the statutory processing period is 60 days when the file is complete; periods when proceedings are suspended do not count toward that clock.
The proof-of-funds formula is published by the Ministry of the Interior. For a long-term study stay, the amount is 15 times the subsistence minimum for the first month plus twice that minimum for every additional whole month. The current calculation uses CZK 3,130: the ministry's own examples give CZK 78,250 for six months and CZK 115,810 for twelve months. Applicants under 18 prove half.
Do not treat those totals as a permanent flat fee. They are produced by a formula tied to the official minimum and can change when that minimum changes. The official IPC portal should be checked again immediately before filing.
A CZK 2,500 administrative fee applies to a long-term residence application for third-country nationals; separate consular rules can apply to long-term visas and particular applicants.

Residence Permit
A study long-term residence application from abroad is generally filed in person at the Czech diplomatic mission. After approval, you enter Czechia to complete the residence-card process, including biometrics, according to the instructions issued with the decision.
Extensions are handled in Czechia. Apply within the permitted filing window and no later than the final day of your current permit. A timely application can create a 'fiction of residence', allowing you to remain legally while the extension is decided.
The previous version of this guide incorrectly said accredited-programme students pay no extension fee. The current administrative fee for extending a long-term residence permit is CZK 2,500 for an applicant aged 15 or over (CZK 1,000 for a person under 15). The statutory processing period for a study extension is 60 days, excluding periods when proceedings are suspended.
