Bank Accounts

Accounts open with passport and enrolment or the karta; the big banks run free student accounts and BLIK, the national instant-payment code system, is how Poles actually pay each other.

Get a PESEL number (assigned with address registration) early: it smooths everything from banking to pharmacies.

Taxes

Polish payroll withholding is handled by the employer. The under-26 PIT relief can exempt qualifying employment and specified civil-contract income up to the statutory annual limit of PLN 85,528; it is not a blanket exemption for every type of income. Above the limit, or for income outside the relief, ordinary tax rules apply. The annual return is usually handled through the tax administration's online services, often with pre-filled data.
