Visa & Immigration
For a full-time degree programme, the normal non-EU route is a temporary residence permit, not a national D visa. Complete the application in MIGRIS and follow the Migration Department or external-service-provider instructions for biometrics and original documents. Current Migration Department fees list EUR 80 for examination/issuance of a student TRP in the general procedure, with separate personalisation/service charges where applicable.
The student subsistence benchmark is 0.5 of Lithuania's minimum monthly wage for each month covered by the proof. With the 2026 minimum monthly wage at EUR 1,153, universities currently express that as about EUR 576.50-577 per month, plus EUR 1,153 for return travel where that evidence is not already covered by the university's mediation letter. For 2027, the approved minimum wage is EUR 1,245, so re-check the corresponding immigration amounts when applying for a 2027 period.
Current university TRP checklists also require health insurance valid for the relevant period and commonly state at least EUR 10,000 coverage, plus accommodation/address evidence and, for a first permit where applicable, a police-clearance certificate. Always use the current MIGRIS/university checklist because the required supporting documents depend on the case.

Residence Permit
The TRP application starts online in MIGRIS, followed by an appointment for identity checks, biometrics and originals. Students applying from abroad may use an authorised external service-provider office where permitted. A positive decision can be followed by production/delivery of the residence card so that a full-time degree student does not need the old first-year D-visa sequence.
Student permits are renewable for continuing studies. File before expiry and use the current MIGRIS deadline shown for your procedure rather than leaving the application to the final weeks. In the final study stage, current university guidance notes that a study TRP is commonly issued for up to six months beyond the study period.
A May 2026 reform added an overall maximum of eight years for study-based temporary residence permits for students holding newly issued permits from 22 May 2026. Declare your Lithuanian place of residence and keep MIGRIS information current as required.
