## Visa & Immigration

A third-country national coming for full-time higher education normally applies for a temporary authorisation to stay before travelling. If a visa is required, the student then obtains a type-D visa. The Ministry normally responds to a complete authorisation application within 60 days; the authorisation itself is valid for 90 days for the entry step.

Financial resources must amount to at least 80% of the current social inclusion income (REVIS), with return-travel costs covered as well. Acceptable evidence can include scholarship or student-loan documentation, bank evidence (including recent statements), or a formal undertaking from a qualifying guarantor. Free accommodation and eligible student-work earnings can be taken into account. A health-insurance certificate covering illness in Luxembourg is also required. After arrival, the residence-permit issuance fee is EUR 80.

## Residence Permit

After arrival, a third-country student must declare arrival to the commune within three days, complete the required medical examination and tuberculosis screening, and submit the student residence-permit application within three months.

The student permit is valid for at least one year, or for the study cycle if that cycle is shorter, and is renewable while the conditions remain met. Renewal is filed within the two months before expiry. Do not assume every permit is automatically issued for exactly one year: the official rule allows the shorter study-cycle duration where relevant.
