## Visa & Immigration

Regular full-time study requires the appropriate Student visa rather than a tourist route. The official visa provisions list the Student visa for the period of the course or up to five years and require proof of admission to an Indian institution.

Study in India states that its SII ID is mandatory for foreign students using the programme and is part of the visa/onboarding journey. Complete the official visa application and follow the checklist of the Indian mission responsible for your nationality and residence, because supporting documents and fees can vary by location.

## Residence Permit

If your Student visa is valid for more than 180 days, you must register with the relevant FRRO or FRO within 14 days of your first arrival. Prepare the documents before travelling and ask your institution which local details it must provide.

e-FRRO is the mandatory online route for FRRO and FRO services. After registration, the same system can handle services such as visa extension, visa conversion and exit permission, and you normally attend in person only when the authority asks you to do so.
