## Part-time Jobs

A non-EU student holding a residence permit for study may work in Estonia without a separate employment permit and without a statutory hourly ceiling, provided the employment does not interfere with the studies. Academic progress and the genuine study purpose therefore matter more than a weekly hour counter.

Keep the distinction between permit grounds clear. A residence permit issued on another basis can carry different employment rules, so rely on the conditions of your actual permit rather than assuming every Estonian residence status has the same work right.

## Post-study Work

After a study residence permit expires in the normal way, graduates generally have a legal right to remain in Estonia for a further 270 days to seek employment and arrange the next residence basis. This is better understood as a statutory post-study stay than as an automatic 270-day extension of the old student permit.

Once you have a qualifying job or another valid basis, switch to the appropriate residence status before the post-study period ends. Check PPA before international travel during this transition, because your expired residence card is not itself a travel document.

For EU long-term resident status, study residence does not count one-for-one. Under the Aliens Act, time spent in Estonia on a temporary residence permit for study is counted at half weight, and only where the person is later issued a temporary residence permit on another basis. A two-year master's therefore does not simply equal two full years toward the five-year residence calculation.
